Why do people carry Holy Books around & never actually take time to read & understand?

Allah ( Al,The - lah, God), The Qu'ran, The Holy Bible, The Torah..Amen, Nun or Non - ( Noon )..Gaia & Uranus...Ge or Jay..Earth & Sky..Why is it so confusing to people? Why do people allow it to seem so confusing? Maybe it's so simple to me because I know where I fit in now. I just hope it doesn't take extreme measures,like it did for me,for everyone else to sea.
