He's not a big businessman. He's a fake billionaire and a celebrity pitchman who licenses the use of his name to hotels. He doesn't actually own those buildings. While wealthy, he is far less wealthy than his persona would have you believe. A while ago the NYTimes revealed how he used smoke and mirrors to get Forbes to list him as a billionaire. Trump said the NYTimes was lying and said he was going to sue and prove it. The judge threw his case out after he couldn't prove that he was a billionaire.
