Need help with feelings of anxiety during a college event.?

I have a college orientation event in a few weeks. I get anxiety during these kinds of things or really anytime I am in a social setting. I am thin and very self conscious about how I look compared to the other guys. I use to smoke to take the initial edge off but have since stopped because I am a health nut and it didn't make since lol. =) The smoking helped but now I want to try a cure it at the source. Anyway what can I do to overcome the anxiety?
