How do I move out of the friend zone?

My best friend is a guy, and we've known eachother since forever we were "boyfriend & girlfriend" when we were little but that's it. I really like him and may even love him, but I don't know if he likes me back,and I'm not very good at expressing myself about this kind of stuff. I want to be with him soo bad it's driving me nuts!! Please help! If he doesn't like me, how can I get him to like me???
